About:

Dr. Mary Heilman, PhD, is the Bioethicist for the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan (CHAS) and St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Mary holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy alongside degrees in public ethics, philosophy, and biology, with a background serving as a hospital chaplain. Interestingly, her passion for bioethics was first sparked by a love of science fiction! Today, she brings that unique lens to exploring human dignity, conscience, and technology in health care. Outside of work, Mary lives in Saskatoon with her husband and their two young children.

Breakout Session: Constructing human centered health care in the age of Artificial Intelligence

Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, participants will be invited to continue building on the ‘construction site’ of Catholic health care. This workshop aims to develop practical steps to ensure that AI is used to promote integral human development in our hospitals and care homes.
